As an A&R (Artists and Repertoire) representative, you play a crucial role in shaping the future of our label and the careers of our artists. This onboarding guide will help you understand your responsibilities and how to navigate your new role successfully.

Step 1: Understanding Your Role 🤔

Talent Scouting: Your primary task is to find promising new artists that align with our label’s vision and sound. You’ll need to stay on top of music trends, attend events, and network within the industry.

Artist Development: Work closely with our signed artists to develop their sound, brand, and marketability. Your insight will guide their creative and professional trajectory.

Project Oversight: Manage recording projects from inception to release. Ensure that production aligns with our standards and is delivered on schedule.

Monthly Review Meetings: Join our weekly A&R Music Review Zoom call, the first Sunday of the month at 7:00 PM.

Step 2: Familiarize Yourself with Legion Records 🏠

History and Vision: Read up on our history, past releases, and future goals. Understanding our legacy is crucial to finding artists that are a good fit.

Current Roster: Listen to and get to know our current artists. Appreciating our existing talent will inform your scouting process.

Label Culture: Immerse yourself in our label's culture. Engage with the team to understand the Legion ethos.

Step 3: Industry Networking and Resources 🤝

Events and Conferences: Access our company calendar of upcoming music events, festivals, and conferences. Plan to attend those that are most likely to align with our scouting needs.

Contact Database: You’ll be given access to our internal contact list of industry professionals. Start building relationships early.

Training Resources: Utilize the training materials provided to refine your scouting and artist development skills.

Step 4: Tools and Technology 💻

A&R Portal: Familiarize yourself with our A&R portal where you’ll submit artist finds, update project statuses, and communicate with the team.

Communication Platforms: Set up your email, Slack, and other communication tools we use such as WhatsApp. Check these daily.

Reporting Systems: Learn how to use our reporting systems for updates on projects and artist development.

Step 5: Legal and Administrative Set-Up 📑

Contracts and Agreements: Review sample contracts and understand the terms and conditions we typically offer to artists.

Onboarding Paperwork: Complete all necessary onboarding documents, including tax forms and confidentiality agreements.

Compensation Structure: Understand how your commission structure works and how to track your earnings.

Step 6: Initial Assignments and Goals 🎯

First Artist Report: Within your first month, identify and report on at least three potential artists for the label.

Meet the Team: Schedule meetings with various department heads to understand how A&R integrates with other parts of the label.

Set Personal Goals: Establish personal goals for what you aim to achieve in your first quarter with us.
